Adoption Process
If you are interested in sharing your home with one of our wonderful adoptable dogs please keep reading!

The first step is to read and make sure you understand the information in our application before submitting it. Our goal is to find quality and caring forever homes for these special dogs. They have been given a second chance and we want to make sure we make it a great experience for both humans and dogs.

Once we have a completed application, one of our rescue coordinators will contact you and schedule a home visit. Some questions may seem personal but our focus is to ensure the best possible arrangement for the dog. Often we have interested, well intentioned people wanting to adopt but their lifestyles or living situations are not compatible with this unique breed. Rottweilers will bond with their families and tearing apart that bond again due to poor planning is exactly what we strive to prevent.

Assuming all goes well during the application/interview and home check, arrangements will be made to meet the dog and hopefully begin your new life as a Rottweiler owner.

If for ANY reason you are unable to keep the dog or unable to care for the dog as described in our application, please do not re-home the dog yourself or take to another shelter without contacting Southwestern Rottweiler Club of San Diego.

Love the breed? Want to learn more about their heritage and participate in Rottweiler education and activities? Join us for our bi monthly club meeting on the second Tuesday of odd month (see the events page for dates). Meeting starts a 7pm at Mimi's Cafe in Santee - 9812 Mission Gorge Rd, Santee, CA 92071. Meet long time Rottweiler owners with experience and training tips that can benefit you and your dog. We have pedigree dogs and rescue dogs, competitive dogs and companion dogs - everyone is welcome. Carting, obedience, herding and agility are just some of the activities our club sponsors. Come early for dinner and conversation but don't forget to generously tip the waitress (even if you just have pie & coffee!)
We are passionate about this breed and want the very best for each of them. But we understand that sometimes, life deals an unexpected hand. Before trying to re-home your Rottweiler, we really hope you will consider ALL the options and not just the easy ones. We may be able to provide alternative options that will allow you to keep your pet.

If re-homing your Rottweiler is the only option, please read, understand, and complete the information on the relinquish application before submitting it. Once we have received and reviewed the information, one of our rescue coordinators will contact you to discuss the available options and schedule an evaluation. If  there are no serious issues and we have a foster available, we will schedule a pick up and transfer of ownership. Note that submitting this form, it does not guarantee we can take your dog. We have a limited number of foster homes for Rottweilers and during the summer months, we are often full, but we will do our best to help.
